Clouds over the Peloncillos

We’re nestled in between the Chiricahua mountains and the Peloncillo mountains. I tend to photograph the Chiricahua’s because they are closer, but the Peloncillo’s are beautiful too. The evening light on the Peloncillo’s is something to see.

This is pretty much a cloud movie. I started filming early in the day — just a hunch really. As it turned out the sunset over the Chiricahua’s was stunning and I ended up disappointed… still this is pretty nice.

Looking around on the web for the correct spelling of Peloncillo I ran across this great web site — you might want to check it out.

Clouds over the Chiricahua Mountains

Here’s a four hour video squeezed down to two minutes.

This was filmed on a very windy day. Clearly, there’s a lot of wind up where the clouds are, but it was windy on the ground too. I braced the tripod against a fence to keep it from moving. As far as I can tell, it stayed steady. There some ugly lens artifacts when the sun gets into the frame–still, I think it’s worth a look.

Happy New Year!

Yikes! It’s February already. Well, a belated Happy New then.

We’ve finished our move to Arizona (on the NM border). There’s a million new opportunities here for intreresting time-lapse movies. The easiest was the koi pond about 30 feet from our front door.

So here’s my first movie of the new year. I didn’t put too much thought into it. (It was more of a test that turned out well.) I hoped that I could get both the sky reflecting in the water and the koi swimming in the water… or whatever koi do in ponds. It worked better then I expected.

There are tons of frogs in this pond. They make the most delightful squeak when scared. It doesn’t take much to scare them and the pleasure I take in their squeaking doesn’t work to their benefit. I see them leaping into the pond all the time, but I never see them creeping back on to the shore. I hoped to catch them in this video. Alas, I see none of the crafty little devils.

There are a couple variation of this time-lapse on youtube. This link is to all the movies I’ve posted on youtube. Note that one of them is nearing 10,000 views. That seems amazing to me.
